Susanna and James chose to get married in one of my favourite venues, Borris House, a country house wedding venue in County Carlow. I have photographed many weddings in Borris House and they have all been amazing. This wedding was no different.
Susanna is an interior designer so the aesthetics of her wedding to James were very important to her and their wedding venue had to have just the right look. She wanted a pretty country house venue, steeped in history but also with a relaxed and welcoming setting. Borris House ticked all those boxes for them and once finding it, they fell in love and couldn’t imagine holding their wedding anywhere else. Over half the guests came from London, so the pretty tiny village setting of Borris was a lovely and welcoming weekend escape.
I am in love with all the little touches Susanna and James brought to their day with their choices. Susanna’s epic burnt orange Jimmy Choos, the incredible richly coloured bouquet and flowers by The Wild Bunch and the truly elegant long sleeve lace wedding dress by Anna Georgina which could not have suited Susanna any better. Not to be outdone, James looked amazing in his Beggars Run suit and Vivienne Westwood tie pin and cuff links. The reception was styled to perfection too. Pretty details there for days!
When it came to portraits of just the two of them, Susanna and James were very much into the photos. This was one of the most important aspects of the day for them and they knew I had shot quite a few Borris House weddings before and knew the lay of the land very well.
I decided to break up the portrait part of the day into a few short sessions, fitting around the events of the day so they could maximise their time with their guests, rather than take them away for an hour in one swoop causing them to miss the reception and precious time allocated to mingling with friends and family. We popped outside at the end of the drinks reception before the meal for a wander around the grounds and then headed out after the dinner for some spectacular sunset portraits. Check out those sun-drenched colours. Divine!
